The geography of the children's’ centre, a village in the North-West of Moscow region, manifests itself amid a landscape that once begot traditional Russian rural architecture. Accordingly, this is the typology the project works with.

The 5000 m2 floor area brings about the additional challenge of fitting the center into the pastoral surroundings without dominating it. Consequently, it was decided to divide the volume into two bodies - a ‘shed’ and a ‘greenhouse’, both borrowed from the library of rural typologies - which are placed perpendicular to each other.

The iron minium-coated ‘shed’ hosts the direct revenue programme: education, entertainment and commerce. The dense functionality of the ‘shed’ is equilibrated by the airy “greenhouse”, which is practically devoid of any particular programme. The low pitched roof of the translucent greenhouse visually pins the shed to the ground, harmonising it with the horizontal landscape.
